Evaluation Of Other People's Preliminary Tasks

Evaluation Of Prelim Tasks

Libbie, Hamish, Josie and Daniela: The murdering

Camera shots: 7/8 shots included. Interesting shots that portrayed a mysterious theme – this represents the genre well. The pace of the shots was slow to create tension and allow the audience to think more about the purpose of the shots.
Acting: The actors/actresses did really well considering that the piece was very serious and dramatic. No one came out of character.
Music: Reflects the genre well and does not shadow over the dialogue. Has been edited well.
Location: Is very simple, but does not distract from the events in the scene nor does it confuse the audience.
Lighting: The lighting was low key, which reflected the mystery genre aspect well.
Dialogue: The dialogue was interesting and intriguing. It made the reader question things about the film itself.
I would rate this opening sequence, for a prelim task, a 7/10.

Faye, Ellie, Frankie and Alfie: Death in a family

Camera shots: Really good use of camera shots. The over the shoulder shot created good, interesting angels – this reflected the mystery that was created.
Acting: Everyone stayed in character and was fairly convincing. Faye was very good at portraying the aspects that the audience needed to know about. They were fully committed.
Music: This group’s music was edited the best and did not shadow over the dialogue. The sound flowed well with the images.
Location: I was confused about the location. The chairs were set out like a church or a cinema, however one of the characters was dead and another was a clear antagonist. The camera never focused upon the location and did not reveal much about it. As an improvement I think that they could use the camera to make this clearer.
Lighting: The hall made the lighting low key which reflected the genre well.
Dialogue: The dialogue was straight to the point and only revealed what it needed to reveal. Everything said was necessary.
I would rate this opening sequence, for a prelim task, a 8/10.

Paige, Sophie and Charlie: No Name

Camera shots:
The camera shots were simple and realistic; they reflected the genre well keeping the realism factor at heart.
Acting: Sophie came out of character at one point, however this was only noticeable to me due to the fact that I was analysing the clip and not just watching it.
Music: The music portrayed the genre well however it was not edited too well and at some points I found it hard to understand the dialogue.
Location: The location was really good. It was realistic and portrayed the genre well. The actors were sitting on sofas and Sophie even had homely socks on. The setting overall had a homely feel to it. This aspect was done the best within their clip.
Dialogue: The dialogue was very dramatic and made the clip interesting.
I would rate this opening sequence, for a prelim task, a 7/10.
