Our Characters

SAM RINGROSE

Sam is the character we will be using for our film. We feel that as a character, the boy in our film needs to be attractive, nice smart yet casual appearance and someone who the girls want to watch and the boys inspire to be like. In a typical romance genre film, the boy character is usually quite tall, good looking, charming and the type of boy that some boys, at the end of the story, look at as a role model. Sam is tall, slim and has a very charming look about him. With his stylish quiff, good sense of fashion and tattoo's which make him seem like quite a querky character,we feel that he will be perfect in relation to what we are looking for in our film. Sam has an enthusiastic character and being such a close family friend of one of the group members, he will be willing to take an critism's and try to perfect them whilst we are shooting. Throughout the film opening we will need quite a deep, sorrowfull voice for a voice over. The character will be speaking about his ex girlfriend both nostalgically and grievingly. Although sam's voice is deep, we dont feel that its deep enough for the intended mood that we are going to try to portray within the first couple of moments in the opening film. The boys voice we are going to use for this will be Rhys Van De Zande. His voice will automatically establish the inital atmosphere. The audience will never hear Sams real voice so they will prosume that the voice over is what this character sounds like. The costume we will give sam will be quite smart in the parts where you see him as a character. He will be dressed in a suit or smart clothing such as smart trousers, shirt and tie. This will suggest to the audience that he is going to work and that is why he is at the train station or it could create enigma and make them begin to question why he is dressed like this and where he is going. His hair will be in the kind of quiff that is shown in the pictures below as we feel that this makes him look quite trendy and quirky as a character at the same time.

KATIE WEAVER

Katie is the actor we will be using as the girl in our film opening. She is a bubbly outgoing character as a person in real life but in the film opening she will be portrayed as being quite shy and a timid character. The only time when you see Katie is going to be in the home video's which will show the boy and the girl when they were in a relationship, all being video's on a hand held camera. By doing this it will give a more realistic feel to the film opening and we think that by using Katie, she will be ideal. Katie is again, a close family friend of one of the group members so we have decided that she will be best out of some of the other people that we were to use a possibility. The character in our film opening needs to be relateable to teenagers of this day and age and normal girls. This way, the audience will be able to relate to the film and so they are more likely to continue to watch the rest of the film. The girl in our romantic film has got to be pretty to girls and attractive to boys so that the film, although aimed at teenage girls, can appeal to both genders. We feel that considering katie has such long hair, we will be able to style it in many ways which in the home video's will be ideal as we can make it look like its a completely different day just by changing the way her hair and clothing looked. For instance, we could make her hair look quite scruffy in one shot which would suggest that she had just got out of bed or that it was early morning. This helps set the films narrative and gives audience an insight into whats going to happen or what should be expected in the film. In the shot that we film the two characters walking past eachother in the train station we could change katies hair completely allowing the audience to think that time has passed or that she is heading to a specific destination. The clothes we want Katie to wear in the film will be a variety of materials, lengths etc. When we are showing the home video's we want her to be wearing clothing such as baggy jumpers, short shorts etc which will suggest the comfort and confidence she feels within the relationship. It will also make her look more laid back, happy and homely. Her hair will be in soft bouncy curls and this will also suggest that she feels comfertable enough to walk around with her natural hair and not much makeup. Once again, a more natural look will make the scenes seem more realistic and people may be able to relate more to the characters. When we see Katies character in the train station and she walks straight passed Sam, our opposing malecharacter, she will have a completely different hair style such as a slick back pony tail or bun. This could highlight the idea of her also going to work so it would make it look like her and the male character were just two normal people on their way to work. Kate is also a media student meaning that she has a good knowledge basis for what we are doing and what we are attempting to achieve.
