The spy Who Shagged Me Opening Credits and Analysis
The opening sequence of this film instantly portrays the comedy genre and continues to do this throughout the entire section of the film itself. The soundtrack has a bubbly, happy and upbeat vibe which sets the tone for the upcoming events in the approaching film – The music makes the reader smile and feel positive: Conventional of a comedy film. However, the soundtrack is not the item that immediately attracts the audience, but, in fact, the image of Austin Powers walking about naked for the entire opening. Although this may seem to be unconventional, it provides comical emotions for the audience and, therefore, in some ways is conventional. To add to the humour Austin’s so called ‘private parts’ have been covered up several comical items that, some would say, reflect his genitals. This is highly humours for the audience as there are so many objects that could represent this. The use of text has also been featured to cover up his privates parts: This is even more humours due to the fact that big important names of producers and directors have been used in such a non-serious way. In comparison to the bubbly persona of the sound track music, the font used to show the names of important people that were involved with the film is too big, bold and stands out from all of the chaos occurring in the background. It uses strong colours and fits in with the comedy genre. The font used is retro and alike to the 60’s, it also portrays a sense of fun: Something that is a conventional aspect of the comedy genre. The lighting used throughout the clip is very high key and makes the bright colours stand out. I think that this was deliberate of the director/editors due to them wanting to portray the fun comedic side of the genre.
